This Canadian backcountry adventure is an addictive one that leaves guests wanting to re-book the following year

Some of British Columbia's best ski touring accessed right from your remote backcountry lodge. Blending modern comforts with an authentic, rustic, log cabin vibe, expect gourmet meals, cozy evenings by the fire and a sauna with views over the tracks you've just skied.

Less than 3 hours north of Vancouver, this ski-in, ski-out McGillivray Pass lodge is perfectly situated to bear the brunt of snow loaded storms as they move inland from the Pacific Ocean to the Coast Range. Due to its remote location, it is only accessible by helicopter.

Athletic backcountry skiers or boarders, who are looking to push their boundaries and meet other like-minded riders. Ski touring and split-boarding experience is essential, and a high level of fitness is a bonus. Join solo, with a group of friends or take over the lodge which sleeps up to 15.

The 4-day trip runs from Saturday - Tuesday, whilst the 3-day trip runs from Tuesday - Saturday, from December through until April.

After a scenic drive up to Pemberton Airport, you meet the rest of your group heading out to McGillivray Pass Lodge. You’re ushered over to the helipad for a quick safety briefing before loading onto the helicopter, ski boots and helmets ready for fresh tracks on the other side. The rotors fire up and soon you’re up in the air sweeping over the calm clear waters of Anderson Lake below. The lush green forests slowly turn white as you climb higher, getting closer and closer to the lodge. The adrenaline is pumping!

You start plotting your lines on the bare mountain faces surrounding the chopper before touching down in front of the lodge, snow blowing everywhere. Gourmet sandwiches are handed out, and the next thing you know you’re digging for beacons in an avalanche practice session.

It’s time to set off on your first lap and skin up the first mountain face, taking in the stunning surroundings of your new home for the week. After a quick transition you drop in one-by-one, skiing the softest powder around, and it’s a gloriously long run all the way back down to the valley. Skin up and repeat until your legs can’t take any more…

You reach the lodge, feeling exhausted and exhilarated at the same time. After a quick change, you head over to the main lodge for ‘appies’ and local beers from the honesty bar. The lodge host has built a bar outside made from snow blocks, and you soak up the remaining the sunlight out on the deckchairs.

After swapping backcountry stories with the rest of the group, you make your way to the sauna to unwind and relax your muscles. You lay back on the hot wood and peer out the window overlooking one of the mountains you skied earlier. Talk about a view!

7:30pm soon comes around and it’s time for yet another gourmet meal.  The group shares highlights from the day over wine and dessert, before heading separate ways to the three yurts and the Woodhall. It’s time to mentally prepare for another epic day ahead.
