Queenstown sits in a spectacular lakeside and alpine setting in the south-west of the South Island…

With two ski resorts located in close proximity: The Remarkables - which makes a soaring backdrop to Lake Wakatipu - and Coronet Peak. No need to choose between them though – we can organise a ski pass that covers both resorts, so you can go where the mood and the moment takes you each day.

Queenstown itself has the relaxed, cosmopolitan vibe you’d expect from a place where visitors from around the world mix with locals the whole year round. It’s a place that truly offers something for everyone, and plenty to do away from the mountains, from biking and golfing to shopping and wellness retreats, festivals and wineries to art galleries and heritage tours.

Queenstown is also home to some of the best restaurants in New Zealand, with fresh local produce proudly transformed into a mouthwatering variety of cuisines. And if it’s nightlife you want then look no further than Queenstown’s pubs and clubs, where you’ll find live music, happy hour drinks and a warm local welcome.

Check out some of our Queenstown highlights below…

Just a hop, skip and a jump from downtown Queenstown, you will discover Coronet Peak. From perfectly groomed beginner runs up to off-piste steeps that roll gently down to the valley below, there's an adventure to be had for every skier in the group.

Each piste offers breath-taking views of the rocky Remarkables range and the calm waters of Lake Wakatipu, meaning regular photo stops are a must. Heidi's Hut is a Mabey Ski favourite for a quick hot chocolate stop to warm your toes in front of the fire, or if you're looking for a hidden gem to avoid the crowds at lunch. The wall of old ski photos will transport you back to the origins of skiing in New Zealand - oh, and did we mention their pizza is out of this world...

For those who have yet to try night skiing, Coronet Peak takes it to the next level. With floodlit slopes, live DJ's spinning the decks and Coronet Peak Pale Ales flowing, it really is the ultimate après experience in New Zealand.

Nestled in the famous mountain range of the same name, The Remarkables resort is made for family, fun, and freestyle, with a ski field that’s as rewarding for experienced powder hounds as it is welcoming for beginners. And if you are up for an off-piste adventure, this is one of our favourite spots for a quick hike up to the scenic rocky spires of Double Cone where you will discover sun-soaked chutes and fresh powder after a snowfall.

If you have kids in your group or people who love venturing into freestyle parks, The Remarkables is an ideal playground to develop your skills on forgiving beginner runs and exciting terrain parks. We love the intimate feeling of the skiing experience here on wide open groomed runs that all peer down into the valley below, so make sure your camera is at the ready to caputre the moment when the light is right.

When it’s time for a hearty mountain meal, The Remarkables Restaurant is a Mabey Ski favourite, and when après time rolls around, head to the outdoor Ice Bar that will be serving up buckets of Coronas on bench seats perched above the valley - all you need to do is kick back and relax while you admire the lines you skied that day.

If there is a resort in New Zealand that appeals to practically everyone, then Cardrona is it. From the first-time skier to speed demon and everyone in between, there’s something to make every skier feel like they’re at home in this progressive and comfortable mountain playground. With exciting and adventurous programs for kids and teens, there are plenty of places to explore on perfectly groomed runs throughout the idyllic beginner and intermediate terrain.

Advanced skiers will be eyeing off wide open groomers where they can put their head down and ski long arcing carved turns on the speed friendly piste. For the adventurous souls among us, there are off-piste spoils to be had that will keep everyone entertained, especially after a snowfall. And when it's time to rest and refuel, at Cardrona you are spoiled for choice with 8 distinctly different cafes and restaurants that include everything from a quick pit stop to warm your toes or a fine dining venue to enjoy a long lunch with friends.

Our favourite lunchtime indulgence is The Mezz, for one of the best a la carte meals in the New Zealand Alps - and for those who have not yet sipped glasses of champagne from a mountain top, might be best to end their day at Vista Bar for an unforgettable aprés session amongst the alpenglow.
