BC Steep and Deep week
Looking to push your boundaries and ski some of the deepest powder on the planet? Look no further than this epic week long steep and deep week.
On this 9 day adventure, you will spend the first 4 days “warming up” in the powder mecca of Whistler, BC under the guidance of professional steep skiing instructors and guides, followed by 4 days of heli-skiing from a spectacular backcountry lodge in the remote and beautiful North of British Columbia. If you’re an advanced level skier, who is comfortable skiing everywhere in the resort and looking to take your skiing to the next level, then you’re in the right place.
During this 7 day trip-of-a-lifetime, you will start off in Whistler, BC where you will be instructed and guided by some of the top hand picked guides in the area. You will be encouraged to push your boundaries and learn to safely negotiate steep and deep terrain in a safe and encouraging small group of likeminded skiers. After this Whistler warm up, you will fly up to a remote and spectacular backcountry heli-ski village to finish off the trip by putting your skills to the test with 4 days of heli-skiing deep BC powder.
Flying into Vancouver, the skiing starts in Mabey Ski's hometown of Whistler, BC – 2 hours north of Vancouver. After 4 nights in Whistler you will fly up to the remote town of Smithers (or Terrace) from Vancouver. On return to Vancouver you will have to option to fly home or extend your trip back to Whistler, or spend a few nights in Vancouver.
We have created this unique trip for skiers and snowboarders comfortable skiing off-piste in the resort and want to take their skiing into steeper and more technical terrain under safe, expert guidance.
We run this scheduled trip for a lucky group of 8 skiers once per year. Once this date is sold out, or if this date doesn't work for you, we can also organize a private trip.
Arriving into Vancouver International Airport, you will be picked up and driven to Whistler whilst soaking in the mind-blowing scenery of the aptly named Sea-to-Sky Highway. Check into the magnificent slopeside Fairmont Chateau Whistler, nestled right at the base of Blackcomb mountain’s quiet and steep peaks (with a hot tub and sauna to die for!). We’ll host a meet and greet drinks reception on the first evening to introduce everyone and lay out the plans for the epic week to come.
On day 1, you meet your guides, take a few warm up laps and discuss your goals for the next 3 days. From there, you will start to ease into some of the steeper and deeper terrain that has helped put Whistler Blackcomb on the map as the world’s number one freeride resort. This day will help you warm up your legs and get a grasp of the immense size and terrain choice, under the expert eye and tutelage of professionals who have skied here for years.
Once you’ve eased back into the swing of things, day 2 and 3 will bring more of a challenge, with your expert teachers guiding you through the best techniques to tackle those steep chutes you’ve always dreamed of skiing with confidence. The aim of these 2nd and 3rd days is to come out with a sense of real accomplishment, having pushed your boundaries and turned your skiing up a few noticeable notches.
We’ll debrief at the end of each day by the fire with a drink in hand and take the all-important vote on ‘jerry of the day’.
After 3 action packed days in Whistler, it’s time to give your legs a rest for the day. We will collect you and drive you to Vancouver airport, where you will catch your flight to Smithers (or Terrace) and fly over the immense coast mountain range, your playground for the next 4 days.
Upon landing, you’ll be collected and driven to your purpose built heli-ski village for the next 5 nights. Then it’s time for the fun to begin with a welcome reception, you’ll meet your heli-ski guide for the next 3 days and feast on a 3 course masterpiece prepared by the lodge’s private team of chefs. Then time to rest up in your outrageously comfortable bed, ready to go for the following 4 days of powder skiing heaven.
Waking up to a fresh cooked breakfast of your choice, and a chat to your guide about the plans for today, you see the helicopter pilot perform the last safety checks before the day kicks off. All there is left to do is put the skills learnt in Whistler to good use and get ready for the best 4 days skiing of your life. Endless glaciers, towering rock spires, powder filled glades and amphitheater like bowls await your tracks in the endless terrain of Northern BC.
BC is the birthplace of heli-skiing, and boy do they do it properly. Once you have warmed up on the rolling glaciers, you’ll move onto steep couloirs, chutes and gullies under the watchful eye of your veteran ACMG qualified guides. Snow quality and depth like you’ve never seen will push your confidence to new heights as the smooth and soft snow inspires you to push yourself to ski runs you hadn’t thought possible just a few days ago. The only thing aching more than your legs will be your face, it really is hard to stop smiling out here! Back to the lodge for après snacks, beers and a hot tub before your delectable 3 course dinner, paired with local BC wines. Rinse and repeat. Life is good.
On departure day you will fly back to Vancouver where we will arrange to transfer you to the main terminal of the airport, or we can extend your trip with a city break in Vancouver or head back to Whistler for a few more days skiing.
Heli-skiing and lunch on top of a mountain with nobody for miles around are memories that will stay with me forever!
